Jeanne Strohrmann began painting seriously later in life after retiring from an accounting career, gradually moving from acrylics and colored pencils to oils, which became her preferred medium. She first painted florals from her garden, later expanding into portraits, animals, architecture, and now landscapes, while shifting from realism toward a looser, more impressionistic style. She continues to learn through workshops, books, and studying artists like Edgar Payne and Richard Schmid. Strohrmann draws inspiration from everyday scenes—nature, people, light, and color—and says she has far more ideas than time to paint them. Although household tasks sometimes distract her, weekly painting sessions with friends help her stay consistent, and she finds joy in watching a painting evolve past its “ugly stage” into something that resonates with viewers.
