An African Ovimbundu Ceremonial Carved Wood Staff (often referred to as a prestige scepter or umbweti) is a sacred emblem of political authority, ancestral connection, and high social status. These staffs were commissioned by the chiefs (olosoma) and elders of the Ovimbundu people, a Bantu-speaking ethnic group native to the Bié Plateau of central Angola.
