The bald cypress (Taxodium distichum) is a remarkable, long-lived, and iconic tree native to the southeastern United States. It is best known for being one of the few deciduous conifers in North America—meaning it is a cone-bearing tree that "sheds" its needle-like leaves every autumn.

Longevity and Size: These trees are incredibly long-lived, frequently reaching 600 years, with some ancient specimens surviving over 1,200 years. They can grow quite massive, often reaching 100–120 feet in height with thick, buttressed trunks.
