The Black Tupelo (Nyssa sylvatica) is a native shade tree reaching 30–50 feet tall and 20–30 feet wide with a neat, pyramidal-to-rounded shape. It features glossy dark green summer leaves that shift into a fiery autumn mix of yellow, orange, bright red, and purple. Its signature features include deeply furrowed, alligator-like bark and small, ink-blue winter berries that feed local wildlife.
