Lele (Bashilele) and Kuba masks originate from the Kasai River region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. While the Lele are culturally grouped as one of the 18 Kuba tribes and share overlapping traditions, Lele masks are distinguished by their uniquely flattened faces, frequent use of metallic elements, and monumental raffia headdresses.
