The yisanunu is a figurative wooden hair comb handcrafted by Yaka artists in the southwestern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Carved primarily between the 19th and early 20th centuries, these distinctive objects served as potent symbols of prestige, power, and high social status for northern Yaka dignitaries and chiefs.
