A Bambara heddle pulley (locally known as kono) is a functional, highly decorated wooden tool used in traditional West African strip-weaving. Carved by numu (blacksmith-carvers) of the Bambara (Bamana) people of Mali, these objects serve as a prime example of utilitarian African art, where everyday tools are elevated into spiritual and aesthetic masterpieces.
