Ngbaka (or Mbaka) masks are traditional, hand-carved wooden ceremonial objects originating from the northwestern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire) along the Ubangi River.

Distinctive Aesthetics: Mbaka masks often represent ancestor spirits and are recognizable by their elongated oval or slightly heart-shaped faces. They feature a prominent, elongated central nose, a characteristic line of vertical or diagonal scarification ridges carved down the forehead, and an open, O-shaped whistle-like mouth.
