The Ngbaka "Dagara" mask is a highly distinct and rare form of African tribal art crafted by the Ngbaka people of the Ubangi region in northwestern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Known locally as dagara, these carved wood masks are central to Gaza (or Ganza) initiation and circumcision societies, which translate to "that which gives strength". Used during youth coming-of-age rituals, the masks embody spiritual endurance, wisdom, and parental/ancestral protection.
