The Lwalwa (or Lwalu) people, living near the Kasai River between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Angola, are renowned for highly stylized, geometric masks. Carved from mulela wood, these artifacts feature a prominent, protruding triangular nose, almond-shaped eye slits, and a forward-projecting tubular mouth.
