An Mbanja carved wood mask—often grouped or attributed alongside neighboring Ngbaka pieces—comes from the Ubangi River region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). These rare artifacts are distinguished by geometric, concave facial planes and a prominent vertical ridge running over the nose, which represents traditional tribal scarification.
