The African Poto ceremonial sword originates from the Ngombe, Doko, and Poto peoples of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (historically Zaire). Crafted primarily for status rather than warfare, these prestige blades feature intricately engraved iron blades and a distinct pommel wrapped in woven raffia, copper wire, or animal hide.
