An African Zaramo Mwana Hiti figure is a highly stylized, cylindrical wooden sculpture created by the Zaramo people and neighboring Kwere people of eastern Tanzania. Loosely translating to "child made of wood" in Swahili, these figures represent a highly abstracted female torso and play a vital role in women's initiation, fertility, and ancestral rites.
