Bamun headcrest carved wood masks (often called tungunga or tu-ngünga) are highly prestigious ceremonial objects created by the Bamun kingdom in the Cameroon Grassfields. Unlike facial masks, these heavy, bold sculptures are worn on top of the head secured by a base basket or ring, while a fiber mesh veil drops down to conceal the dancer's face.
