The African Hemba Mwisi Gwa So’o (often referred to as Soko Mutu or Soko Muntu, meaning "human chimpanzee") is a highly distinct ritual wood mask crafted by the Hemba people of the southeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. It serves as a striking artistic hybrid, merging human facial symmetry with the exaggerated, raw features of a forest chimpanzee to explore the boundaries between order, nature, and the spiritual afterlife.
